2009 Md. Striper Regulations
Catch & Release:
March 1st - May
Susquehanna Flats, upstream of a line from Sandy Point to Turkey Point and the Susquehanna River downstream from a line connecting the Susquehanna State Park boat ramp in Lapidum to Twin Rocks to Tomes Wharf in Port Deposit; and Northeast River.

No eels.
If using bait and the hook has gap of 1/2" or more, you must use non-offset circle hooks.

Trophy Season:
April 18th - May 15
There is no slot Limit again this year
One Fish per Person - 28" or greater per day
Restricted to the mainstream of the Chesapeake Bay from Brewerton Channel to the Maryland/ Virginia Line, Tangier & Pocomoke Sounds (no Tributaries)
No Eels.

Summer Regulations:
May 16th - Dec 15
It's back to the summer regulations of two fish per person greater, only one can be over 28"

2009 Virginia Flounder Season
Options for the upcoming Virginia flounder season are in the works. It looks like we will have to suffer through a closed season on four of the options even though Virginia was below quota by a small amount.
The options are as follows:
Option 1: 19" - no closure
Option 2: 18.5" - close 7/21 - 8/3
Option 3: 18.5" - no closure
Option 4: 18" - closed 7/21 - 8/3
Option 5: 17.5" - closure 19 days TBD
Option 6: 17" - closed 7/21 - 9/5.
All are five fish bag limits.

 
MSSA License Plates
For cars & trucks. One time fee of $25.00. Pick up an application at the next meeting and check out the plates in the parking lot.

MSSA Jackets
MSSA Jackets Orders & payment will be taken at the meetings. Jackets are navy blue & similar to Land's End type. $40 for lightweight, $45 middle & $50 heavy weight. Print the on-line order form by clicking here. This includes the embroidered MSSA Logo on the front and 1 line of text. You can add additional lines for $5. Also include the 5% sales tax. These are very nice jackets and some of our members already have them.

 
NMFS Migratory Species Permit:
All owners/operators of vessels fishing recreationally for and/or retaining regulated Atlantic Highly Migratory Species (Atlantic tunas, sharks, swordfish and billfish) in the Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea, must obtain an Atlantic Highly Migratory Species permit.

The 2009 Atlantic HMS permits cost $16.00 and will be valid from the date of issue through December 31, 2009.

Boat Registration
Do not forget to check your boat (2-year renewal) and tag registration to ensure you are up to date for 2009. While you mar at it, make sure you purchase your Chesapeake Bay permit. It can be done by mail with your registration.

Any issues or problems call the DNR at 866-679-0906 in Cumberland. They are not as busy.

Fuel Refunds
Virginia & N. Carolina
Motor fuel (gasoline and diesel) that is purchased and used in a recreational or pleasure boat or ship or used in commercial water craft is eligible for a refund of all or part of the Virginia or North Carolina motor fuel tax that was paid.

If you purchased fuel for your boat in Virginia or North Carolina in 2008 you may be eligible for a refund.
