Delaware Head Boat Trip
Indian River Inlet, Delaware

The 15-members that went met at the Park & Ride on Route 144 at 4:00am. The 16th member left from Ocean City & met us at the dock & the 17th member was called by cell phone & answered his phone while in bed. We left at 4:15 without him.

We were at the dock at 7:32am & left the dock around 8:00am. Captain Burt Adams took us to five to seven wrecks or artificial reefs throughout the day trying to locate Tautog. The first fish on board was the winner of the pool by our own Steve Elsbach which netted him $105. For one reason or another we did not fish for Stripers. I think it was because the larger and legal size were not in the areas we fished. The catching for the day was not that good at all but the sea was favorable even though it was 32 degrees Farenheit when we drove through Bethany Beach.

I think everyone enjoyed getting together for a day on the water. I know Gordon's grandson had a good time because one of his relatives said to me that Tyler must have walked five miles around the boat. The teenagers on the boat ate non-stop for eight hours & were calling the mate "Super Mate" for hauling in the anchor so many times. All in all it wasn't a bad day..

Chesapeake Bay Fishing Report
by Captain Ed Susa
As the season starts to wind down & many of us are already putting our boats away for the winter it seems that some larger ocean fish have finally made their way to the middle of the bay. Reports from Smith Point to Solomon's tell me that fish to the low 40's have been caught trolling parachutes with large bucktails & 9" sassy shads. The fish have been in water from 40' on the channel edges to deep water in the channel. The fish caught in the deeper water were in most instances around the 40' depth.

The Choptank River around the Airplane Wreck at buoys 12 & 14 produced limits of most fish between 22" and 26" inches. We were out trolling midsized & small bucktails with 4" & 6" sassies & limited in less than an hour. Seemed we hit the incoming tide just right & even had a couple of double headers with the largest fish at a FAT 26 inches.

Locals have been following the Gannets in the false channel on both sides of the Diamonds at Green can 5 and Red can 6 jigging fish to 30" on light tackle. The gulls were on the smaller schoolies while the gannets were feeding over larger fish. They were dropping 2 oz bucktails with 4" twister tails to catch these fish.

Trolling from the Radar Towers south past Parker's Creek to the CP buoy off Taylor's Island produced fish in the mid 30's with a report of some fish over 40" last week. So if you haven't put the boat away & the wind isn't blowing, take a shot of some big fish that may stay in the area for a couple of weeks.

Good luck and Hit'em hard.

NC King Mackerel Trip is back
for 2008
Oct 4-11, 2008 (Saturday - Saturday)
This trip will allow anyone with a trailer boat to enjoy kingfishing within sight of the beach & be protected from any north or northeast wind. We'll be at Harker's Island which is even closer to the fishing grounds. We have secured the entire motel at Calico Jack's & have already filled the 21 rooms & have 16 boats going. Don't worry if you have not signed up as we will have contacts for houses that are very close & you will still be able to keep your boat at the marina. We'll l host 2 nights of great food, one a catered BBQ & the chapter trailer & grill will be on site for anyone to use. We'll also have a signup sheet for crews & boats. So if you need people you will be able to review the list & if you have a boat looking for people you will be able to advertise. These will be at the meeting. We'll be doing a rigging event where you can get all the supplies you need. We'll do a Q&A for anyone at the next meeting & should have all the supplies necessary for tying rigs. I know it's early but we want everyone to be prepared & have everything they need well in advance. See Rob Pellicot at the meeting or call him at 240-586-5201 for more details on the trip.
