June 26, 2007 - PRESS RELEASE
Lines were allowed in the water at 6:30 a.m. & had to be out of the water by 3:00 p.m. The official scales were open from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Bluefin, yellowfin & big eye tuna were the targeted species. At the end of the first day Charles Wallace from Baltimore
checked in a 64.8# yellowfin tuna at Sunset Marina. John Romm from Chester, Md placed second on day one with a 64.1# yellowfin in Wachapreague, VA. Although they’re only forecasting winds of 10-15 knots, our contestants had to battle 4-5’ seas on the way home from their
50-60 mile run from the Canyons. In fact, one boat did not make it back to Wachapreague Marina until 9:00 p.m. Fri. night. However, this was not due to sea conditions but a hook up on a huge big eye tuna for 4 hours. Rick Nadolny of Annapolis, aka "Monster Fish", stated
that it was a fierce fight. Rick had to wait until Sat morning to have is fish weighed at the marina. It weighed in at 137#. The leader board changed on Sat. when Mike Bogdon of Annapolis brought his yellowfin tuna to Wachapreague. Mike’s fish weighed in at 65.1#. The skill
level category for dolphin changed throughout the weekend as well, but was finally captured by Keith Neal of Wachapreague with a 25.2#. Although the scales did not open until 4p.m., Captain Sam Fisher from Heathsville, VA. was patiently waiting there by 2p.m. Sam wasn’t taking
any chances for entering his catch in the tournament. One never knows what might happen on that long ride home. At 4pm sharp Sam 7 his crew offloaded his huge big eye. Hanging it from the scale it came to rest at 116.1#. Needless to say, this put Sam in first place &
he held that position for the remainder of the tournament. Sam walked away with $9,360 for his fun-filled weekend on the Atlantic.
