Chincoteague Island, VA
Fishing Report
by Charlie Koski

Well fall is upon us and as far as I am concerned this is the best time to go fishing, no crowds and less pressure on the water. As far as in the bays we have had a pretty good flounder showing the past few weeks along with some small blues and a trout or two. We had 19 throwbacks and three keepers on Tuesday. The wrecks off the beach are holding good numbers of flounder, triggerfish and the sea bass are starting to turn on also. If you are into the surf fishing thing there are Red Drum and plenty of nice blues being caught.
Now lets talk blue water, not much on that subject at least on the Tuna side. Very few boats are going meaning very few fish to be seen. The 'Hoo bite has been better than the Tuna and there have been days when many White Marlin were in the spreads. One Captain told me he had two on his teaser squids and had a hard time gettim them to let go. Two hook-ups minus the hooks, oh well!!! Come on down and enjoy the fall fishing.

Chesapeake Bay Fishing Report
by Captain Ed Susa
Seems with the warm weather continuing the spot have remained in the mouth of the Choptank around Buoy # 10. I had the opportunity to live line the last couple of weeks & tried to load up on the small spot, but what we found were HUGE spot to 10-11" in 50 ft of water just southwest of the #10 buoy. Once we did get some small spot we live lined in the False Channel at buoy # 4 with mixed success. We caught our limit of 20-22" rockfish on the incoming tides. Also, we boated several large bluefish in the 6-10# range. They were actually caught on the larger spot. In addition, we had the opportunity to do a little flounder fishing with about 15 fish being boated & we were able to limit with fish to 19". They were found on the ledges just across from thee live lining area at Green can # 3. We ran the ledges towards red can # 80 looking for bait stacked on the bottom using a double hook setup with a minnow & squid combo. Once we found the bait hugging the bottom, hook ups were frequent. Some are beginning to troll medium tandem bucktail rigs on the channel ledges from Deale south to Point Lookout with fish being caught to 30". One fella from Hooper's Island told me he had 3 fish in the 30" range with sea lice on them. Most have been fishing around buoy # 72 & definitely working the deeper water as well.

Schools of breaking fish have been reported just about everywhere. Look for the diving birds & you'll find about the same thing in each pod, Rockfish below some nice size bluefish. We got on a breaking school around Green can # 5 in the False Channel & jigged up some keeper rockfish to 22". Use a 2oz short stingsilver or a 1-2oz bucktail trimmed with a 3-4" motor oil colored grub. After I lost 3 or 4 of them I put a short sliver colored wire leader on to prevent the bluefish from biting through the line. The fish are there so fire the boat up and hit 'em hard.

Safety Tips

Safety Gear
:
Check flares for the expiration dates, fire extinguisher for proper charge & purchase these now so you do not forget.

Trailer:
Replace brake fluid in the master cylinder using a suction gun or turkey baster. Brake fluid attracts moisture & given the environment this should be done every year.

Registration & Fishing License:
Check dates on the 2yr registration to make sure it's not expired, if so you can renew & get your boat fishing license at the same time. If not, go to Walmart to get your boat license & avoid the rush.
