President's Message
by Rick Thompson

On Tuesday August 28th we lost a very good friend and fishing buddy. Marty Russell died at Frederick Hospital from liver and heart failure. I had the pleasure of spending many wonderful days on the water fishing and hanging out with one of the finest people you could ever know. Marty had been fighting his many health problems for over 6 years. He needed a new liver but that was not going to happen due to his many other illnesses. Marty never had a bad word to say about anyone, he would do anything for you and I don't know anyone who did not like or get along with him. I will miss him very much especially when its time to go fishing. There are not a lot of really good people in this world, but he was one that we all count on and completely enjoy being with. His last fishing trip was the rockfish tournament in May. He got in two real good days of fishing with Tony and I. Our trip to N.C. in October will not be the same without him.

I want to thank everyone who helped with our fundraiser. We did real well again this year. We need help from everyone in the club and I think we have a great bunch of guys that do so much for us. This year we raised almost $5,000. This is our only fundraiser and this kind of success is what we must have to keep running our chapter and making it possible to do all the great trips and programs we have. I think it was great that one of members won the trip this time. Mr. Bob Perkey was our winner, I hope he really enjoys himself.

Our Big N.C. fishing trip to Hatteras is coming up real soon. Anyone who has never been should try to come. We have a big time and the fishing that time of year can be really hot. Give Crabby a call for more information or any questions you have or if you need someone to talk you into coming. I hope to see all of you at our next meeting on Wed Sept. 12th. Take care and be safe on the water and say a word to Marty the next time you get to fishing!
