Tunament Recap from the Reel Screamer
This is from the MSSA Tunament 6/22-6/24. Crew - Buster, Paul, Tim. We fished all 3 days from Chincoteague &
with great reports on Thursday from the Poorman's we headed there on Friday. Trolled a 10- line spread with the shovel and mixed bag of bars & ballys. Went 2 for 2 on dolphin, largest only 14.7 lbs and 1 for 1 on YFT which was 53.3 lbs. Caught the tuna on a mini GM spreader
bar in the shotgun. The highlight was a white we released on a pink squidwitch. Congrats to Paul who got his 1st white. Chris Dollar of the Fisherman Magazine did a ride along & took the marlin shot for us. Not a bad day but it was not on fire like earlier in the week. Seas
flattened out until we were 30 miles from the beach and we got our but kicked the rest of the way in on my 24' Hydrasports.
Fished deep into the Washington on sat and had 1 dolphin. Buddies had some bites and boated YFT in 200-250 just short of the tip but we managed 0 there. We couldn't catch our butt with our hands today.
Sunday we went just north of the tip & inside. Arrived at 6:45 and put lines in. Caught 2 YFT the largest a 45.9 lber. The largest tuna hit a Blue /White Shell Squid with a Mini GM trailer on the flatline. The other hit a Squidnation Rasta Chain with a eliminator chase bait
(GM type). We also had 2 dolphin on meat the largest a 16.4 # Only fished 1/2 day & headed for the barn in flat calm seas.

Chincoteague Island, VA
Fishing Report by Charlie Koski
Tuna, Tuna, Tuna!!!
T hat was the how it was during the Tuna-ment for the boats that left port here. I think almost everyone landed Tuna or some Dolphin. Some went wreck fishing before the start and did good on Triggerfish, Spadefish and also a bunch of Flounder on Blackfish Banks. Again it was
good to see the Frederick Chapter folks to talk fishing. In the bays we are still catching some small Flounder with a few keepers about every four days, that is when the weather cooperates and we get drift. Taylor blues have been working in the canal in front of the harbor and
some croaker have started to show up. Water temps in the bays is vary close to 80 degrees.
From an e-mail I received: Make sure to tell everybody to measure fish with the mouth closed as I had a dispute over a fish of less than a quarter inch & received a citation. (Keep in mind while reading this story I have a out of state registration on my boat so they know
I am not fighting this & that it is a Sunday when they are out bugging everyone) Recently fishing in the bay I caught what I measured to be 2 keeper flounder. After throwing them in the cooler here came the marine police. They had been watching with binoculars & watched
me put the fish in my cooler. I had nothing to hide after all I have fished in the bay for 20 years now & had never broken a law before. I measured my fish on the floor of my boat with a tape measure. One was 18.5 and the other 18.75. They pulled up and checked my fish less
than a min after putting the second one in the cooler. They informed me it wasn't legal and I told them I had measured the fish but that if they say so it was still alive and to release it which they did They then checked my other fish by pushing it against they stop on their
ruler hard enough its gills stuck up when they did it and the fish was about 3/16 short on their scale. I apologized and showed him the method I used to come up with my measurements and wanted to make everything right. The marine cop unpleasantly informed me to go buy a measuring
scale like theirs and to measure fish with the mouth closed. He then started to write me up a citation instead of just educating me, since it was obviously not my intent to break the law. To make a long story short, Measure the fish from the upper jaw! Thanks for the information
I'm sure this will help many people out. Tight Lines.

Report from Bill's Fishing Shack: by Bill Johnson
Although I have yet to get out for any of the summer fishing, I have gotten reports of a few flounder being caught at the usual haunts in the Bay. Numerous croaker & spot can be caught by drifting over oyster beds & channel edges in the Patuxent River, the larger of the
croaker being caught late evening till just after dark. Reports of rockfish up to 26" have been caught trolling deep bucktails & bottom bouncing the channel edges of the Bay. The captain I talked to stated he had caught numerous diseased fish, although had no problem
getting his limit. With school out, now is a good time to get your younger kids out for a short trip fishing some of the smaller but active biting spot & croaker. Many kids have a short attention span, but if you gear the trip especially for them, they'll want to go again.

Replace brake fluid in the master cylinder using a suction gun or turkey baster. Brake fluid attracts moisture & given the environment this should be done every year.
Registration & Fishing License:
Check dates on the 2yr registration to make sure it's not expired, if so you can renew & get your boat fishing license at the same time. If not, go to Walmart to get your boat license & avoid the rush.
