Chincoteague Island, VA
Fishing Report by Charlie Koski
We have had excellent weather in January thus far and the fishing has been pretty good for those who have ventured out. Stripers are being caught along the coast and there is a possibility of another large striper being caught again that
will beat the 63 pounder caught last year in January. Tautog are still being caught on the inshore wrecks with some weighing over the 15 lb. mark. Some wrecks like Blackfish Banks, are fairly close to shore and if you pick a good day you can really catch some nice tog. Frozen
sea clams will work as well as Green Crabs(which are very hard to find this time of year). Size limit is 15" and 7 PP in VA. If you prefer not to take your own boat try going on a headboat. The Morning Star captained by Monty Hawkins out of Ocean City can put you on some
nice fish. On to the flounder regs, well good news VA was under again for three straight years on their quota, so VMRC reps are sure that the same limits will carryover from last year, 16.5" and 6 PP. If you are not fishing now is the time to get your fishing gear in check.
Re-spooling with new line is very important. Don't want to miss that trophy fish due to having old line on those reels. Tight lines.
