President's Message
by Stephen Shechtel

Another Season comes to a close

As I write this month's message, it's a dreary rainy cold Friday. The weekend weather report is predicting temps in the 50-60 range, winds at 15-20, seas 5'-6', rain, thunderstorms, and fog. It's another great weekend weather report. Hurricane Wilma is churning off Mexico and headed our way next weekend. Then there was the "oil storm" that made it nearly impossible to afford to go offshore. It seems that 2005 was the year of the storm. With so many storms traveling up the coast it was difficult to squeeze in two days offshore.

Last week at Atlantic Beach the weather was not much better. Old man winter is coming soon in a location near you. With the exception of MSSA Fall Tournament, most of us will not be fishing much again until next April (with a few notable exceptions).

Despite the storms of 2005, it was a great season wasn't it? The Spring Rockfish run was great. Frederick Chapter took honors in all of the MSSA Tournaments. This year's offshore action was awesome. Crabby reported that it was one the best he could remember in years. The season kicked off with Rick, Budd, and Crabby landing a 400+ pound Blue Fin off Atlantic Beach. Then there was the Blue Fin run off Chincoteague, followed by the Big-Eye, and Yellow Fin. Who could ask for more?

As we commence to store and winterize tackle, equipment, boats, and whatever else we drag out each year, we can reminisce on this season and begin to dream about the next great season just over the horizon. In between, we have much to look forward to. November's speaker will provide details on how to service your reels, December will bring Frederick Chapter's first swap meet, January the tackle shows, February means boat shows, and in March the many MSSA Chapter swap meets.

Finally, I apologize for the length of last month's message. The process of printing the newsletter is a mystery to me, but it seems that somehow John Sivinski took a discarded file and included in my message. The actual message was half of what was printed. Sorry... but I do not get the luxury of being able to proof the newsletter prior to printing.

Upcoming Events

Nov 12th -
Fall Rockfish Tournament.

This is a one day tournament and with the date later the fishing should be really good. It's not to late to sign up so check your Tidelines or call the office at 410-255-5535 for an application. Many of us will be fishing out of Solomons Island. Persons interested in crewing in the Fall Rockfish Tournament or Captains that need a crew, should meet at the November meeting.

CAPTAIN OF THE YEAR
It appears that Congratulations may be in order for Capt' Tony Tolbard and Capt' John Travers (a/k/a Crabby) who are rumored to be in the running for MSSA's Bluewater Captain of the Year Award.

Congratulations to both Tony and John. As to the overall Captain of the Year, the contest remains hot with Capt' Tolbard, Capt' Travers, and Capt' Pelicott all being in the running. The results of the Fall Tournament will determine the ultimate winner. Good luck guys.
