Chincoteague Island, VA
Fishing Report
by Charlie Koski

Well summer is drawing towards an end here on the island and things are beginning to slow down a bit. Where did the time go? We definitely survived a very HOT and HUMID few months, not that it is quite over yet. As far as offshore action, it is still a hit or miss fishery. Flounder, seabass, triggerfish and spadefish are still being caught at the inshore wrecks. Try Blackfish Banks(aka Bouy 8A) near the shipping channel. This is a good spot to try when not being able to make it to the Tuna Grounds and it only 8 miles from the tip of Assateague Island. I have heard of several anglers limiting out on flounder there in only a few hours.

Farther offshore the Tuna Bite is still good to excellent. The Bluefin are medium to large and some small Yellowfin are showing in numbers now at the 30 - 50 Fathom lines. Small Dolphin were are also abundant as I heard several Captains reporting limiting out (10 PP).

Inshore action is slowing as the Croaker are starting to move on out. Some flounder are being caught at the inlet. As soon as the water cools a bit the flounder and blues should start to make their return. Summer doesn't officially end until September 21 and if the water temps hold the fish will stick around. So come on down.

Tight lines!
