Fishing Report
by Charlie Koski

Flounder season is here and as the water temps rise and the water clears the fish will bite. The only problem is that it has either rained or the wind has blown every weekend since the season opened in Februrary. Coastal temps have been 10-15 degrees below normal also up until yesterday(May 22) when we finally reached 76 degrees. The Flounder tourney went well and alot of fish were caught from Chincoteague to points south for those who wanted to run that far, where many anglers caught there limits of flatfish. A few bluefish were landed also. As always it was good to see the chapter members again and talk fishing.

The coastwide recreational Atlantic bluefin tuna fishery will reopen on June 1, 2005, with the default bluefin tuna daily retention limit of 1 fish measuring 27" to less than 73" curved fork length. Until that time vessels permitted in the HMS Angling or HMS Charter/Headboat category may catch and release or tag and release BFT of all size classes. The recreational yellowfin tuna daily retention limit is 3 yellowfin/person. The minimum size for yellowfin and bigeye tuna is 27" curved fork length. There are no recreational limits for bigeye, skipjack or albacore tunas.

Tight lines!
