President's Message
by Stephen Shechtel

Because John Sivinski is going on vacation, I was instructed to write this message two weeks earlier than usual. (Poor excuse but he follows orders well. ED. Note ) I was going to write about cruising down the South River on a spring morning reminiscing on how beautiful the Bay is. That column will just have to wait.

At our last Chapter Board Meeting it again hit home just how great our chapter is. Think about it: we have standing room only chapter meetings, we have our own cook (and his lovely wife) serving hot meals at chapter functions, there were only two open seats at the Board Meeting, we have money in the bank, we donate large sums of money to charity, we have more people and boats participating in chapter tournaments than most hotels (or marina's) can accommodate, and the list of our accomplishments goes on and on.

As the Board continued deliberations on a number of subjects, it became unmistakably clear that everyone was (and is) working very hard to achieve the same goal: to improve something at MSSA Frederick #22. Chuck Mullaney is launching a survey to improve the annual dinner meeting, Crabby is exploring possible sites to host the October King Mackerel trip in Hatteras, N.C. while Bert Edmonston and ET are looking at alternative sites in Moorhead City, Rick Thompson is computerizing the chapter finances and putting together a new budget, the Appleby's are hard at work on our 2005 fund raiser, Dave Griffin is Chairing the Shakedown Cruise, Rick Etzler the Spring Flounder Tournament, Robert Pelicott the Spring Rockfish Tournament, and the list goes on. And the speakers... we have lined up some truly great programs: Matt Able on Flounder, Wayne Morgan on Rockfishing, Lee Green from Stalker Outfitters, Capt. Bob Figular from the Mariners School (Radar and Collision Avoidance), and many more.

But we can do better and to do so we need you. Chuck needs your opinion. Rick Thompson needs help with the budget. Charlie and Mo Appleby need help with the fund raiser. Rob Pelicott and Rick Etzler need your help with their Tournaments. Public Relations Committee has a new chairperson (Bert Edmonston) who could use some help too. The list goes on, and all it takes is for you to volunteer as little as one (1) hour per month to make a big difference at Frederick #22.

To each and every officer, director and member, I again say thank you for making Frederick Chapter #22 the best Chapter in MSSA. To everyone else who you may overhear saying: "Who are those guys? They're from where?" we can turn around and proudly say: We're the MSSA Frederick Chapter, come and watch us grow".

See you at the meeting.
Stephen Shechtel

Next Meeting

April 13th 2005:
Food service starts at 6:30
Meeting starts at 7:00

Speaker:
Captain Wayne Morgan, of the Charter boat Frayed Knot will be our featured speaker in April. Wayne runs a 25' Parker from the Deale to Breezy Point area and can usually be found at the fishing shows at the Tyler's Tackle booth. Wayne will speak on springtime rockfishing, his trolling pattern that includes the use of planer boards. Wayne is a wealth of knowledge and his presentation is right before our big tournament.

If you missed last month, Frank Darringer, the owner of Midshore Electronics in Cambridge Maryland, gave a great presentation on Radar and some electronics in general. He could literally talk for hours and I think everyone walked away learning something they did not know. He donated 2 VHF Fixed Mount Radios and another weather station radio worth well over $450. The chapter gave it away at the meeting to some lucky winners listed in the newsletter. If you have any questions feel free to give Adam or Frank a call at 410-228-7335.

Vendor:
We will have Georgie Kline the owner of Tyler's Tackle in Chesapeake Beach at our April meeting. He ties the absolute best parachutes on the bay and many charter captains get their supplies from him. He will have the usually assortment of rockfishing supplies on hand just in time for opening day. If you need something special give him a call at 410-257-6610 (store) or on his cell at (443) 624-1787. He will be happy to bring up anything special you may need.
