Membership News
By Ken Wheeler

Welcome new members to the Frederick Chapter.

The MSSA is looking to improve communications & public relations in 2005, which will lead to increased membership & overall exposure of our organization. A membership committee has been formed to accomplish this objective through such means as advertising at sports shows & press releases in local publications. Also of interest is developing "on-line" membership application & tournament entry. The committee is in need of volunteers to assist with this mission by developing news releases, brochures, & advertisements, as well as developing the website for "on-line" ordering.

Please contact Ken Wheeler or any chapter officer if you would like to participate with the membership committee.

If you have a family membership, you can obtain membership cards for your included family by listing their names in the space provided on the application/renewal form. Please note that the family membership only covers children to the age of 16.

Please check beside your name on the member roster each meeting. Check your renewal dates. Some MSSA tournaments require the Captain to be a MSSA member. This attendance information is useful for planning future meetings and activities. Please update your demographic information and email addresses.

Attendance at the December meeting was approximately 40 members.
A reminder to all, please check your information on the sign in sheets for accuracy.
Report from Bill's Fishing
Shack
By Bill Johnson

Well, the 2004 fishing season is behind us. Even though the fall striped bass fishery was slow compared to the spring fishery, I'm not complaining because the quality of the fish was superb. I found that the white 3-ounce Swedes bucktail dressed with a 6" or 9" shad worked very well for me in the fall fishery. You might want to keep that in mind for the spring 2005 fishery. I know I will. The white perch fishery in the Patuxent is still pretty strong if you can find the bait. Bloodworms seem to be very scarce. One tip to try that I picked up from another captain is to use small bits of white perch for bait. It must work, because he was cleaning the proof-a couple of dozen perch 9" and above.

In these cold windy weeks, I'm looking forward to shopping the many flea markets and shows for my favorite baits and gear. Of course, the highlight of the winter months is the MSSA Annual Convention in Ocean City, a weekend of relaxation and enjoyment with lots of fish stories and outlet shopping for the non-fishing spouses. It's the chance to renew acquaintances with members of other chapters, who seem to be awed by the lively participation of a club so far from the water. In four years, the Frederick group has grown from one couple to five attending the convention. It's not too late to make a reservation for the Feb. 4-6 event. There's an application form in the Jan.-Feb. issue of Tidelines, or you can contact the MSSA office at 410-255-5535.

For the latest fishing reports, you can reach me at the Fishin’ Shack, 410-326-1891.

Call me with questions at my Frederick number, 301-663-4802.
