Chincoteague Island, VA
Fishing Report by Charlie Koski
Stripers are starting to show around the bridge pilings and in the surf. Casting 1-2 oz. bucktails adorned with white or chartreuse shad or white curly tail grubs are catching the most fish near the pilings of Black Narrows and Queen Sound Bridges.
Black Narrows is only accessible for smaller boats that can navigate under the structure to the north side. I am sure that if you troll off the beach they are out there also. They are being brought in at high tide in the suds at Assateague Island. Commercial Flounder season opened
October 1 here and the draggers are here cleaning them up again. Weather has been too bad to fish for flounder in the inlets the past few weeks.
Well I just read Al Ristori's column in this weeks Fisherman Magazine and the 50-50 cut for the flounder quota vote was 9-9, a tie, which means it, will probably stay at 60-40. Recreational fishermen need to make their comments heard.
You can send your comments to: Mr. Jack Travelstead,
Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission, 144 Eye Street NW, 6th floor, Washington, DC 20005 or email him at:
The more anglers who write their concerns and send them in the more hope we have to get them to ease up on the regulations and get us more fish in the freezer to eat.
Have Yu Sent Your Comment In Yet? Remember our MSSA motto No Unity No Voice No Fish.
In last months report I noted the offshore bite would be hot until the end of October. Well here it is the end of October and it is 75 degrees today. The tuna bite is still going on at the canyons with large Yellowfin being caught and 150+ lb Bluefin being brought in also. Limit
is still one Bluefin per vessel. Longfin Tuna are also abundant with Wahoo and Dolphin rounding out the catch. Good Fishing to all.
