Cook Mo' Fish
by Maureen (Mo) Appleby

Grilled Tuna Steaks Randy Wirth Style
Marinade:
6 tuna fillets
1 cup pineapple juice
¼ cup Soy Sauce
Juice of ½ lemon
¼ cup olive oil
3 cloves chopped fresh garlic

Wash & dry steaks. Arrange in one layer in a glass dish. Puncture the outer edges of the steaks with a fork on both sides so they can absorb the marinade.

Combine remaining ingredients. Pour over fish. Coat both sides. Marinate 2-3 hours.

Grill steaks 2-3 minutes each side over high heat so that fish will remain pink inside. Do not over cook. Serve. Eat. Enjoy!

The Bluefin limit has been upped to two per person as of August 22. The Mar-Va tournament was last weekend. Though it was rough seas, a few boats ventured off shore and caught Tuna, both Bluefin and Yellowfin. I was out on Tuesday the 24th and didn't get anything chunking at the Parking Lot or the Ammo Dump (east of Lumpy), so we went on the troll and caught a Skipjack and one dolphin near the 11 Fathom Lump. We threw the Skippy back and lost the Dolphin on the swim platform of the boat. Oh well that is why they call it fishing instead of catching. Continued Column 3

Report from Bill's Fishing
Shack
By Bill Johnson

The weather has been very cooperative, hot and humid days with gentle winds on the water. Schools of breaking fish with birds marking them are scattered from Cove Point to Hooper's Island light, producing small blues and small rockfish for light tackle fishing. I have found some larger blues and legal rockfish suspended under these schools. I have also seen Spanish mackerel mixed in with these schools of bluefish. I have used white and green Gotcha plugs trolled 4-6 knots through these schools to target the Spanish mackerel. Bottom fishing is still producing a number of large spot with a few hardhead and small trout in the evenings. Minnows have produced catches of very small flounder, 6"-12" long.

For the latest fishing reports, you can reach me at the Fishin’ Shack, 410-326-1891.

Continued:
Bay fishing has been at a halt up until middle of August. We had a big Croaker kill here at the end of July and a lot of them were floating everywhere in the bays. The Marine Biologists at VIMS are calling it an effect from what they call upwelling. This is when the water temps drop offshore too much for the fish to able to handle and they die from it. I saw fish swimming aimlessly next to my boat while out on charters, sort of like they were lost. They are starting to come back now and some are being caught in different locations around the bay area. Some flounder are being caught but mostly shorts. Tight lines to all.
