Chincoteague Island, VA
Fishing Report by Charlie Koski
The weather's been frightful for the past 2 weeks on the island. Hurricane Alex made a bump & run off Hatteras. It slowed folks in the OC White Marlin Open down quite a bit. Boats from Cape Hatteras didn't make it up for the start due
to rough seas. We've had 15" of rain since July 24th & it is Aug 5 & raining hard outside again. I just cancelled my charter & before I could get the boat cleaned up it blew & rained tremendously hard. Enough about the weather let's get on to the fishing report.
Throwback flounder are still here, although the rain has dampened their bite, I did have three keepers (17" & up) on Sat. & averaged 10-12 throwbacks on most trips. We had croaker floating dead after last Friday. The biologists are reporting the rain removed the oxygen
from the sea water & they croaked, for the last time. We hate to see that happen here since we love to catch those hard fighting little guys(sometimes big ones too).
The offshore report is great. Bluefin in excess of 100 lbs were caught the last week of July & some just the other day. Lumpy Bottom is holding the fish. Yellowfin are mixed in also as well as Mahi Mahi. Come on down and get in on the action.
