Rob's World
A huge Thank You goes out to Matt Abel of Seahawk Sportscenter in Pocomoke City for his presentation on drum and flounder fishing along with his donation of a flounder rod and reel combo that was worth over $130. Matt also supplied
our members with a bag full of info and goodies including live bait swivels, flounder strips, etc. Matt has always been gracious to the chapter so make sure to stop by on your way to Chincoteague and thank him with a purchase and let him know you are with the Frederick Chapter.
Georgie Kline of Tyler's Tackle will be at the meeting with a trailer full of rockfishing supplies. he has some of the finest parachutes around and at the best prices. He will have tons of shads, bucktails, umbrellas of all sizes, his famous daisy chains, hoses, huge Fabrill
Rockfish nets - the finest out there today and many other items. Make sure to stock up on your items at the meeting..
Legislative Info - The Freedom to Fish Act has passed both the House and Senate and is waiting on the governor's signature to become law. Thanks to everyone that got involved contacted their congressmen. Without your support this could not have happened.
One correction to last month's newsletter item - the NC King Mackerel Trip will be Oct 8 - 16th. The tournament is Oct 11-15th. Sorry for the confusion on dates last month. We have 20 boats signed up as of the last meeting and these reservations were faxed to the Sundowner
Motel already. If you did NOT make reservations with us already then I suggest you call the Sundowner directly @ 252-726-2191 and let them know you are with the Frederick Group. Slips tend to fill up quickly so get this done ASAP. We will have a rigging get together later in the
year for anyone who is interested. Any questions call Rob 301-696-7851. |
Chincoteague Island, VA
Fishing Report by Charlie Koski
The flounder battle is over for another year here in VA. The regulations in VA for 2004 will be 17", 6 PP, no summer closure. Ernie Bowden (Chincoteague Island & ESVA VMRC Representative) presented an excellent case based on the
economical impact & made a motion to accept the FMAC proposal of 16-1/2", 5 PP & 8 day summer closure (this was the proposal Chincoteague, Wachapreague and the seaside wanted). No one on the commission would 2nd his motion. The conservation side lobbied hard for a
"no closed season" option & the commission ignored pleas to ease the burden for the Eastern Shore. We islanders thank everyone for their e-mails, letters and any other correspondence sent to the VMRC supporting the smaller size limit. Eleven months from now we'll
know the results of the regulation, in more ways than one. Season opens Monday March 29th. Come on down and catch some flatties. With that under our hats I have just about got everything ready on the boat and will be fishing the first day, weather permitting. We just put the minnow
traps in & are putting the finishing touches on my new minnow float. All my new Reels are spooled & new rods are rigged & ready for the first day.... Tight lines to all.
The 2004 Chapter Flounder Tournament will take place this year on April 23, 24 and 25th, Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Chincoteague, Virginia. Entry fee is $40 per boat
and closing date is April 14th, 2004. This year will be a three day event allowing the total weight of up to six 6 fish only. At this writing the Va. Flounder Regulations have not been determined. Those interested may obtain an entry form at one of the meetings.
Again this year Capt. Bob's Marina will host our tournament & Donna has reduced her slip fee & ramp fee for the event. She also graciously donates prizes for the tournament. Sea Hawk Motel on Maddox Blvd., Chincoteague will be the chapter motel & has offered reduced
room rates & also donates a cash prize for the tournament.
On Saturday April 24 at 7 pm for those that are interested we have arranged an evening of fellowship at THE VILLAGE RESTAURANT located on Maddox Blvd. A fee of $5 will be collected for each person interested along with the entry form & fees & will be returned to those that
attend the evening of the dinner. We need to advise the restaurant of a number that are planning to attend. Any questions contact Rick Etzler, Mike Bean or Pete Castle. |
