Rob's World

MSSA Lifetime Memberships are now available for $500, payable in four installments; and, you will receive an MSSA Captain’s jacket, MSSA license plate and a print suitable for framing.
Anyone that would like to get into a show for free can do so by volunteering to work the MSSA booth for a few hours. It’s easy & you get to meet some new people. Please let Rob know via 301-606-1892.
Chuck Mullaney has graciously agreed to utilize his motor home to transport approx. 10 people to the Atlantic City Boat Show. It’s one of the best shows around & we leave in the morning (Feb 7th) coming back that same night. It has a full line of fishing boats with factory reps. & a huge area of tackle & accessories. It can take 1/2 day just to get through that. If necessary, we can rent a van if we fill the motor home. See Rob at the meeting to signup. The MSSA convention is also Feb 6-8th at the Princess Royale in Ocean City. Everyone is welcome. Discounted rooms are available. Contact main office at 410-255-5535 to make credit card payment. See Tidelines for additional information. We have quite a few members that go. They always have plenty to eat & drink in the hospitality room. Ask Walt Shaw, Maureen & Charlie Appleby, Fred Keen or Bill Johnson to name a few.
Chincoteague Island, VA
Fishing Report
by Charlie Koski

There are stripers still being caught by the Black Narrows Bridge pilings and Queen Sound Bridge pilings. I was sitting on the Black Narrows Bridge the other day waiting for the Drawbridge to close and two anglers in a Carolina Skiff were bringing in a nice striper. I got to watch the whole fight. It was a keeper and I honked to show my appreciation of watching the battle. The fish was a nice one. It was measured and put in the box. It's always good to see the smile of an angler after the battle, especially when it’s a keeper. The VA season ends Dec. 31, but the coastal waters are still open for striper fishing. We are hunkered down for the winter here. My boat is next to the house awaiting the warm spring air so we can get her ready for charters starting in April. Lets hope it is a dry one this year. The Main Channel is being dredged from the drawbridge to the entrance of the Chincoteague Inlet. It was needed since Isabel shifted all the channels. Some talk of flounder regs. at our Chincoteague Island Charter Association meeting indicates a possibility of a lower size limit of 16.5" and a bag limit of five fish per person. It is just speculation at this point, and as I hear more, I will communicate it to you in this column.

Wayne Smith, our photographer, would like photos of member's boats. His email is:

or bring to next meeting. A book of all of the chapter rigs will be on display at the meetings. This way we can put a name with a boat.

Crabby’s Winter Fishin’ Fever
We went down to Virginia Beach to fish out of Rudee inlet on Sunday, Dec. 21. We got out around 2 pm, outside the inlet, 1 mile off the beach in 40 ft. of water and caught 2 rock fish 35” long. The weather was sunny and wind was SW at 12-15.
On Monday we went 18 miles south of Rudee Inlet, 1 mile off the beach, in 35-40 feet of water and caught 16 rockfish, brought in 8. The water temperature was 48 degrees.
Tom Musser and his crew stayed down Tuesday. They went 38 miles south of Rudee Inlet, ¼ mile off the beach and hit’em heavy. They caught 12, kept 4 and even caught a couple big blues.
We stayed at the Days Inn in Virginia Beach and it was only $25 plus tax per night.
If interested in winter rockfishing in VA. Beach at Rudee Inlet in December or January call Crabby for details at 301-253-9806
