Rob's Thanks - NC Trip
The week started off on Sunday with a free cookout of fried chicken, steamed shrimp, hamburgers
& sausage & all the sides. We also had 2 raffles: King Mackerel Raffle Winners: $105 went to Bryan Etzler. The King Rod
& Reel Combo (valued at $230+) went to John Sivinski.
The weather was beautiful from Friday to Monday, then it quickly
deterioted. We had the worst weather ever for the week, but every day was fishable. Occasional rain & cloudy conditions persisted
the rest of the week. We also had fewer catches of kings this year. The entire fishing season has been off except for the Spring
rockfish. Many species were caught including a 7.7# Spanish Mackerel, sharks, baracudda, houndfish - poor man's sailfish, amberjacks,
blues and cobia. We had kings, 2 of which were over 30#, along with flounder & trout for people that were bottom fishing.
We gave away $3,690 cash in the tournament. This year we had 2 winners that were first timers. Congratulations to Louis Linetty
& his crew for coming in 3rd place overall & collecting $300. They had 3 quality fish, totaling 55 lbs. They credit their
success to their recently purchased downriggers from chapter member Ron Lutz. Chuck Mullaney & crew had a daily winner worth
$150 for the second largest single fish of the tournament, a 30.7 pounder. |
Chincoteague Island, VA
Fishing Report by Charlie Koski
The weather has been just beautiful the past few weeks with some improvement in the fishing.
The island has cleaned up from Isabel and Summer Flounder are being caught with very few keepers and not in numbers. Some Weakfish
and Striped Bass are showing up around the pilings at Black Narrows and Queen Sound. Some Red Drum are showing in the surf and a
Striper here and there. The action should improve in the surf over the next few weeks. You will need an off the road pass to get
to all the good spots since there are only two parking lots left on Assataeague at this time. Offshore action remains slow off Chincoteague
but if you want to travel to Poor Man's Canyon they are doing fairly well on the Yellowfin and Dolphin. Most people opt to travel
out of West O.C. Boat Ramp.(next to Sunset Marina) for the trip to this location.
Frederick Chapter Yearbook
Wayne Smith, our photographer, would like photos of member's boats. His email is:
or bring to next meeting. A book of all of the chapter rigs will be on display at the meetings. This way we can put a name with
a boat.
