Chincoteague Island, VA
Fishing Report
by Charlie Koski

Hurricane Isabel has come & gone. I can say Chincoteague made out pretty well compared to other places nearby. We had a tidal surge of about 6-7 feet above normal which, left standing water in some yards. The southern part of the island had water over the main street at high tide on Thursday. As far as the fishing goes, I have not been out for about 2 weeks now & I'm not sure what's biting. I have seen a handful of boats out trying there luck since the storm. The Coast Guard has issued warnings for the Chincoteague Channel due to the storm. Some navigational aids have been moved & the inlet has changed. Mariners have been issued a warning to be careful when navigating these areas until the Coast Guard has had an opportunity to reset these markers & it will take several weeks. I was in Ocean City yesterday for my other job & saw plenty of Yellowfin Tuna brought in. At the Worcester Public Ramp I saw about 20 tuna & several dolphin. Across the street, I watched the Charters haul in about 50-60 Yellowfin & 20-30 dolphin. One boat had 14 Yellowfin! It was a sight you'ld normally see in July & August but the bite finally started turning on right before the storm hit & evidently it did not make them leave the area. Might still be worth coming down & giving it a try. Tight Lines!
