Football Game Books

The Football Game Books are available at the meetings. This is our chapter's big money maker for the year and the board requests your dedicated, active participation in the purchasing and selling of the books. Our goal is to sell 500 game books before the first Monday night game. Any unsold books must be returned in a timely manner to board members in order for all the books to be sold. There are approximately 170 books left. The Football Game books fall under the jurisdiction of the gaming laws of the state of Maryland and an accurate accounting of all books is mandated. Your help and cooperation in this venture is greatly appreciated.

Frederick Chapter 1st Annual
Tuna Tournament Results

We had 13 boats participating with $1,625 up for grabs in prize money. Although the fish did not cooperate, we all had a great time. Donna of Capt Bob's provided a free fried chicken dinner Saturday night. Three tuna were checked in. You will need to come to the meeting to find out who won. Since no dolphin was caught, a random drawing (all non-winning boats) will be done for the $162.50 at the meeting. We had a great turnout for our 1st event and suggestions are welcome for next year. Tuna are still hit or miss, a far cry from last years fishing.

Spring Tournament Changes
Main Maryland MSSA

Dates May 14-16, 2004. Fish will be measured again next year and you will be able to check fish in all 3 days. Also they are looking at a separate division for charter boats. This will be totally separate from our tournament and prizes including the TNT's. This means no payouts will be impacted in any way. Basically the MSSA will be able to make some additional income and the charter boat prizes will all come from their entry fees. In addition the Chesapeake Bay Magazine named our Spring Tournament the Best on the Bay for 2002.

Fishing Report
by Charlie Koski

Croaker finally showed in numbers in the Chincoteague Bays & what a relief to be able to catch something we can put on the table. Flounder action remains slow & spotty with a few hot spots that hold flounder still providing action. There are a few keepers finding their way in the box. A few trout have been caught off the rocks at Queen Sound. Kingfish are showing up in the main canal in front of Curtis Merritt Harbor. As far as the offshore action it has been slow as well. The bluefin have not showed in numbers like last year. Blue fish are still hanging around the Parking Lot and at Lumpy. Water temps sunk down to the low 60's the last week of July. Let hope August brings the fish on. Tight lines to all.

Gas Docks: The 1st shipment was delivered the week of July 21st and once it's fully operational they will receive shipments every 4 days. Make sure to stay clear as they have a Coast Guard Escort and you cannot fish anywhere near the Gas Docks when ships are docking or present. There are reef sites
already underway; Taylors Island, and the one near the CP Bouy. Come to the meeting and we have the coordinates.

Frederick Chapter Yearbook

Pictures of your boat are needed. Wayne Smith our chapter photographer is looking for everyone to send him a picture of their boat. His email is:

or bring it to the next meeting. Wayne is putting together a book of all of the chapter rigs that will be on display at the meeting. This way you can put a name with a boat.

For fish pictures: One must complete a Chapter Fishing Album Submittal Form & attach a picture of the fish & submit to Wayne Smith. Forms will be available at the monthly meetings & on the website.

October King Mackerel Trip
The September meeting will be centered around the trip to include specific information about rigs, equipment, etc. If you have questions before then please see Rob Pellicot or Dave Griffin.

The tournaments for this trip will be as follows: Daily-$50, Weekly $100 & the Calcutta $100. So for $250 you can get into everything. Remember many 1st timers have won the Calcutta & walked away with a huge pot of money. This year should be even larger with over 20 boats going. We will have information & be accepting money for the tournaments at the August meeting.

The pig roast is back this year in North Carolina. Dwight and Bonnie Sanders along with a friend of theirs from NC will be doing the pig roast on Wednesday or Thursday. We will collect money to offset this cost from everyone who attends. The chapter will provide sides etc along with our regular cookout Sunday night to kickoff the week.

Chincoteague: by Rob Pellicot
Small tuna are being randomly caught both chunking & trolling around the parking lot. Bluefish are thick at Lumpy Bottom. Also Bryan Etzler caught some nice sea bass at the Parkin' Lot as well on his deep lines for tuna. Hopefully the fall run of yellowfin will be strong.
