Football Game Books
The Football Game Books will be available at the June 11, 2003 meeting. This is our chapters big money maker for the year and the
board requests your dedicated, active participation in the purchasing and selling of the books. Our goal is to sell 500 game books
in 90 days. Any unsold books must be returned in a timely manner to any board member in order for all the books to be sold. The
Football Game books fall under the jurisdiction of the gaming laws of the state of Maryland and an accurate accounting of all books
is mandated. Your help and cooperation in this venture is greatly appreciated.
Frederick Chapter 5th Annual
Spring Tournament Results
The awards for our Spring Tournament will be given out at the June meeting. We are giving
away $1,330 in cash and $230 in additional prizes. I would like to congratulate all the winners in our tournament and in the main
MSSA tournament. A new member Ray Potter finished second overall and walked away with over $18,000 in cash. In fact we had quite
a few people win in the main tournament - tune in for details at the meeting. By the way the winner walked away with over $34,000
- next year it could be you.
Upcoming Events
The MSSA Tunament is June 20-22 with a small boat
division - no charter captains and weigh in stations in Ocean City, Chincoteague and Wachapreague. The Frederick Chapter will have
a bunch of boats fishing out of Captain Bob's, so come on down and join us. The tournament is small with only 60 boats in both divisions
and it has last chance awards as well. Contact Ken Wheeler or one of the officers at the meeting for more information. You can sign
up June 18 at the Annapolis Chapter meeting or on Thursday night June 19th in Wachapreague - they have a free cookout and Boater's
World gives away some really nice prizes. The Sea Hawk Motel in Chincoteague 757-336-6527 has really good room rates and make sure
you mention you are with the Frederick Chapter.

Fishing Report by Charlie Koski
The 4th annual chapter Flounder tournament was
held on April 25 and 26th 2003 at Chincoteague, Va. Twenty-five / 25 / boats participated in the annual event. The weather was normal,
cloudy, windy and cold. The day after the tournament the temperature was 75 degrees and beautiful.
On Friday the first day of the two-day tournament, a
total of 34 fish were checked in at the scales. The heaviest fish caught in the tournament was a 7.4lb caught by Rob Pellicot aboard
the Sea-quest with Capt. Ron Jenkins. Ron Jenkins and his crew went on to take first place overall, the prize for the heaviest flounder
and the Jernigan Calcutta. Ron and his crew weighed in a total of six fish on Friday which netted them first place of which the
total weights held even though they were not able to fish the second day of the tournament. Capt. Bryan Etzler and crew on the Catch-n-Hell
II weighed in five /5/ fish on Friday. Capt. Frank Molino and crew on the Dog House, Capt. Justin Fleming and crew on the Fish Bones
and Capt. Paul Rippeon and crew on the Ripp-Tide all weighed in four /4/ fish respectfully on Friday. Capt. Leroy Fleming's crew
on the Cisco Kid weighed in three /3/ fish and Capt. Doug Tracey's crew on the Wet Dreams checked in two. Capt. Mike Beans and crew
on the BeanTeam weigh, Capt. Gordon Jernigan and crew on the Vitamin Sea, Capt Wayne Redman and crew on Red Dog, Capt. Chuck King
and crew, Capt. Bud Wildman and crew on Obsession and Capt. Craig Abshire and crew all weighed in one fish on Friday. On Sat., May
24, I fished with Bruno Vasta on the Dottie V, and the bite had slowed considerably. I can't help but think of what the November
fishery will be. There are a few small blue fish showing up, and there are a few hardhead being taken in and about the Patuxent
River. I have also caught some nice hardhead up to 19" in the surf at Cove Point, though recently they have been much smaller.
If the bottom fishing this summer turns out to be half as good as the trophy season has been this spring, then we're in for a tremendous
year of fishing. Hope to have some pictures of success from the Fishin' Shack at the June meeting. |
Saturday started off with report of possible
severe thunderstorms and rain by afternoon. This forecast did not materialize and the entire second day was fishable as well. A
total of 19 fish were weighed in on Saturday. The heaviest fish caught on the second day was taken by Capt. Craig Abshire and crew
weighing in at 5.1lb. cont.
