Fishing Report
by Charlie Koski

Well the flounder season opened to NE winds and it seems it has not stopped blowing since then. I am not going to tell a fish story here but just good ol' Eastern Shore truth. Fishing has been like a vacuum cleaner, it sucks on one end and blows out the other. The wind has blown all but 6 days since the season opened and the fishing has really sucked. The first few days of the season the water temps were just about right being anywhere from 52-55 degrees. The next week we were hit with a Nor' Easter that lasted the entire week with almost 3" of rain and cold temperatures has drove the water temps down to 46--48 degrees and the Summer Flounder are not showing like they have in the past. I hope it warms soon so I can get out there and put some fish in the freezer.

Other News by Rob Pellicott

The Freedom to Fish act was defeated but will be brought up again next year. Just for the record the CCA did not support us on this along with some other groups. This is for every fisherman's benefit so if you belong to CCA I would make it known you are displeased and are no longer going to support their organization.

Another noteworthy news item comes from Trailer Boats Magazine. Bombardier the parent company of Evinrude & Johnson outboards is supporting the Ocean Futures Society based in Southern California. The Ocean Futures Society is one of the groups promoting the closure of hundreds of miles of fishing areas along the CA coast and beyond. Ironically Bombardier markets to fisherman as well so make your own choice on your next outboard. If the decision is not clear enough, I will add the Bombardier is a Canadian Company so that may explain everything.

The main MSSA is looking for a Membership Chairman and a Vice President due to the untimely passing of John Bird. John did many things for the MSSA and will surely be missed.
