President's Message
by Dave Griffin
The "Official" beginning of Spring has finally arrived with the opening
day of rockfish season, and what a great way to get started. On Saturday, Rob and I went fishing with Rich Novotny and some other
MSSA members on board the 'Oh Thank Heaven' where Rich made a believer of me about dummy lines. 5 of the 6 fish we caught were on
the dummy lines! Sunday, the weather was absolutely beautiful and together with Randy and Crabby, we caught 15 rock between 31"
-36" on board my boat, 'Easy Rodder'.
The fish are there and the MSSA Spring tournament is shaping up to be the best ever. The new 3 day format will give everyone a chance
to catch quality fish to check in. Remember that this tournament is the major fundraiser for the MSSA to continue the fight to protect
your rights as a recreational fisherman. So enter the tournament now, you'll have a great time and you'll be helping the MSSA to
help you!
Our own Frederick Chapter Spring tournament is shaping up real well too. We now have at least 22 boats entered. We'll be raffling
off a trolling rod/reel combo at the cookout on Friday night of the tournament. If you haven't registerd for this, please do so
at the May meeting (the cookout alone is worth the $60 entry fee).
Speaking of tournaments, we will be presenting awards at the May meeting for the 2003 Frederick Chapter Flounder Tournament.
If you're new to our chapter and have wished you had more opportunities to go fishing, get ready. The 2003 season is underway and
we've got some great fishing trips ahead for everyone! See you all at the May meeting. |
Next Meeting - May 7, 2003
Food will be available starting at 6:30pm, so come early.
Speaker Chuck White from Dyacell Batteries will speak on battery
construction and different types for trolling, gel cells, etc. Flounder Tournament awards will be given out by Rick Etzler, Mike
Bean and Pete Castle.
