Fishing Regulations
The Director of the DNR called the MSSA for input into changing the opening day of the rockfish season from April 20th to April
19th . This is an historic event, since it is the first time we have ever been contacted by the director himself for input. This
shows we are making a difference and inroads into the MD DNR and legislature. The MSSA Board, voted to move opening day to April
19th and more importantly have it the 3rd Saturday of April going forward. This recommendation was given to the DNR and the proposal
was approved.
Striped Bass Survey -
Last year participation was down for the first time in 9 years. It maybe due to the push for the Flounder survey but everyone needs
to take the time to fill these out. This can be done online or via paper. We will have the DNR at an upcoming meeting to give us
more information.

Chincoteague Island, VA
Fishing Report by Charlie Koski
The AFMFC adopted Option 1 for the Virginia Flounder Regulations. This means a minimum size limit of 17 1/2" & an 8-fish
possession limit, with a January 1 through March 28, 2002 closure on a statewide basis.
Artificial Reefs are
now in VA. NYC Subway cars were placed at Blackfish Bank off Chincoteague Inlet & at Parramore off Wachapreague. They are marked
with buoys & were placed this past Dec. This should provide some great wreck fishing in the near future.
There will no longer be a "Tuna Permit"
it will be a HMS Permit (Highly Mitgratory Species) which will still be $27, the cost
of the old tuna permit. The twist is if you fish more than 3 miles offshore you will be required to have this permit, even if you
are not fishing for sharks, tuna or billfish. Since you could catch them the permit is required. Therefore if you go 5 miles out
& are wreck fishing the permit is required. Enforcement maybe another issue since they would have to board you fishing more
than 3 miles off without a permit to find you in violation. Any questions call or see Rob at the meeting. You still purchase it
the same way by calling 888-USA-TUNA or via the web at www.nmfspermits.com
Donna at Captain Bob's indicated she is redoing the boat ramps & will be dredging
in May. This is great news to the offshore & bigger boat fisherman. She is also considering changing pier 1 into a transient
pier so we would all be together on our weekend trips
Shakedown Cruise
The chapter shakedown cruise is scheduled for Sunday April 6th. There will be a sign-up at the
March meeting. We will leave D&D at 9am or you can meet us at Sandy Point State Park. We will leave at 11am & head to Kent
Narrows & have brunch at Annie's. As a bonus you can pay $10/ boat & at the brunch we will draw Poker Hand's, the winner
will take all. If you have any questions please ask.
