President's Message
by Dave Griffin

Bill Royer, a long time Frederick MSSA member passed away Friday, Feb 21st at the age of 81. Bill was active in the chapter, participating in the Flounder & Spring tournaments as well as the trip to North Carolina. He was an avid hunter & fisherman. He will be missed by many Chapter members, including his son, Danny. We would like to share our condolences with his wife and the family.
Just a few more weeks 'til Spring finally, and many of us are getting our tackle ready for the season. Our first fishing trip of the year is our annual flounder trip & tournament at the end of April & to help us get started, Matt Abel, from Seahawk Tackle near Pocomoke, will be here at the March meeting to talk about Chincoteague flounder fishing. He will also have some flounder tackle so be sure to attend. Also, at our meeting, we will make plans for the shakedown cruise. This will take place on Sunday, April 6. We plan to go to Annie's at Kent Island for brunch. Hopefully the weather will break so that everyone can get their
boats ready. That's also the first day of daylight savings time.
Some of you may already have been fishing for Rockfish on the Susquehana Flats by then, but April 20 will be the beginning of trophy Rockfish season on the
bay. After that, there should be plenty of fishing for everyone. I'll be glad to get this snow and cold behind us and get back out on the water. Hope to see you all at the March meeting!

Food will be available starting at 6:30pm, so come early.

Speaker
Matt Abel from Seahawk Sports Center will be our guest speaker. Matt owns the tackle shop & is an avid bay & offshore fisherman. His shop is located a few miles north of the Virginia Line on Route 13; you pass it on your way to Chincoteague. It's fully stocked for flounder, rockfish & offshore. Matt will be speaking on spring flounder fishing. This will be a great opportunity to get info for our upcoming April Flounder Tournament. He will have flounder rigs & tackle for sale. He carries stainless steel rigs that are great & do not rust. Matt has donated a Rod & Reel Combo for the tournament. View at meeting.
Note: The May Meeting will be held the 1st Wednesday, May 7th, due to MSSA Captian's Meeting in Annapolis the following week.
