How to Submit Photos to the MSSA Frederick Web Site

Directions for MSSA Frederick Photographer:
Make sure that the images are saved in .jpg format at 72 dpi and that
the .jpg extension is in lower case letters.
Give your images a meaningful name. Use dashes " - " to separate words.
Example "Rockfish-Oregon-Inlet-Crabby". Please note the photo gallery
software will arrange the photos in alphabetical order, so design your file
naming scheme accordingly.
Photos for uploading MUST be at least 600 pixels wide or 600
pixels tall at a minimum otherwise the gallery software will fail.
Do not upload photos larger than 1600 pixels wide or 1600 pixels tall
at 72 dpi otherwise the gallery software will fail.
To produce a photo gallery that "looks good" it is best to crop all photos
so that all the meaningless portions of the photo are removed. This way
the interesting portion of the photos appear closer, larger and more clear.
Here is an example. This photo is RESIZED to 600 pixels wide at 72 dpi
and "not cropped" and typical of most raw, uncropped photos. As you can
see, the point of interest appears distant because the image was NOT
CROPPED before being "resized" to 6oo pixels wide & 72 dots per inch.
In this example the photo was CROPPED first to eliminate excess or
less important portions of the image and then resized to 600 pixels wide. As you can see, the point of interest in the photo appears closer and more clear. Save final versions of JPG photos using a #4 compression factor.
General Directions:
It takes two versions of every fish photo to create a proper photo gallery web page. The smaller photo or image is called a thumbnail image. Thumbnail images are linked to larger images so that when you click on the thumbnail you get to see a much more clear photo. Most digital
cameras today produce a very large image. The dimensions can be over 1200 pixels wide which is too large to view on most monitors. This is a good thing if you are going to have the digital photos converted to actual printed photos but for the Internet, we need to "resize"
them. You would really be helping your webmaster and the MSSA Frederick photographer if you could size your photos before submitting them to the website for publication.
All digital photos need to be submitted in .JPG .jpg (JPEG Format).
Directions for Manual Hand Built Photo Galleries:
If possible (for those of you who are able) please crop and size each photo of your fish and create one thumbnail image 225 pixels wide and one full sized image from 600 to 700 pixels wide both at 72 dpi resolution. Cropping discards non essential
areas of an image so that downloading is faster and important areas of the image are more visible. For those of you who know about JPEG file compression, we use a #4 compression. Be careful and DO NOT compress until you have finished cropping and sizing.
Please do not worry if you cannot perform this procedure. Send us your photos and we will take care them. It saves us a lot of time when the photos are in a ready to use state.
